Introduction: Shape the Future of Catastrophe Risk Assessment Moody’s is officially accepting applications for the highly specialized Exposure Modelling Summer Intern position at its Greater Noida location. This internship is an exceptional opportunity for advanced academic scholars to join the Model Development group, specifically working with the Exposure Development team. Interns will play a critical role in developing datasets for economic and insured property exposures that power industry-leading natural catastrophe models.
Understanding the Role: What Will You Do? As a Summer Intern, you will be heavily involved in primary research and data analysis to enhance Moody’s Exposure Models.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Global Data Analysis: Researching, evaluating, and analyzing datasets required for exposure development across global geographies using public and open-source data.
- Valuation Modeling: Assisting in the creation and refinement of valuation models for a broad range of buildings and infrastructure assets.
- Market Research: Analyzing the unique characteristics of property insurance markets and exposure landscapes worldwide.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working alongside analytics teams to document methodologies, analytical insights, and support continuous model validation.
Eligibility Criteria & Required Skills
- Educational Qualifications: Candidates must be currently pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. degree from an accredited university in Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Urban Planning, Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, or a related field. (Note: Strong bachelor’s candidates in these fields are occasionally considered).
- Experience Level: Freshers / Current Students.
- Location: Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India.
- Core Technical Skills: Hands-on IT skills with a strong proficiency in R, Python, or SQL.
- Emerging Technology: A basic understanding of AI concepts (including Generative AI tools and Agentic AI systems) and a curiosity for using these tools to optimize workflows and research.
- Domain Knowledge: Interest in Catastrophic Risk Modelling, the Property Insurance Industry, and building construction practices across different countries.
Value Add: How to Optimize Your Resume for Moody’s To stand out in the applicant pool, your resume must highlight both technical proficiency and domain-specific academic knowledge.
- Highlight Spatial & Data Projects: Clearly feature any academic projects or thesis work related to Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, or urban infrastructure.
- Showcase Technical Stacks: Do not just list “Python.” Explicitly mention how you used Python, R, or SQL to clean, analyze, or visualize large datasets in your projects.
- Emphasize AI Usage: Since Moody’s is looking for candidates to drive efficiency using AI, mention any practical experience you have with prompt engineering or leveraging generative AI for data analysis.
Interview Preparation Strategy If shortlisted, prepare for technical rounds focusing on data manipulation and problem-solving. You may be asked how you would approach gathering and structuring open-source geographic data. Brush up on your SQL queries and Python/R data manipulation libraries (like Pandas). Additionally, demonstrate a strong foundational understanding of natural disasters and how they might financially impact infrastructure.
