Kanakadhara Stotram is a powerful Sanskrit hymn composed by Adi Shankaracharya, dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. This stotram is believed to bring blessings of financial stability, abundance, and spiritual grace when recited with devotion.
📜 Origin of Kanakadhara Stotram
- 🧘♂️ Composed by: Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya
- 🕉️ Time Period: Around the 8th century CE
- 🌾 Context: As a young boy, Adi Shankaracharya went begging for alms (bhiksha) and was offered just one dry amla (gooseberry) fruit by a poor Brahmin woman who had nothing else to give.
Moved by her devotion and generosity, he recited 21 verses praising Mahalakshmi. Pleased by his prayer, Goddess Lakshmi is said to have showered golden amlas (Kanaka = gold) into her home — hence the name Kanakadhara (the stream of gold).
