Kanakadhara Stotram is one of the most powerful Sanskrit hymns composed by Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya to please Goddess Mahalakshmi — the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity. The word “Kanakadhara” means “stream of gold”, and according to legend, reciting this stotram with devotion can bring immense fortune and remove poverty.
Shankaracharya composed this hymn when he saw a poor Brahmin woman unable to feed him during his alms round. Pleased with her generosity and humility, he recited this stotram to Goddess Lakshmi, who blessed her with a shower of golden amla fruits.

1. Angam Harimritam Gatham
अंगं हरि-मृतऎ गतं गमानीनं या शौभमापिजम् नामिते | निकामाप्यं नरमारधिपापम् नारायणां नत्यमुपास्य चिनिम् ||
Meaning: Who is the embodiment of compassion, whose glance dissolves the sins of devotees, who is as pure as molten gold and whose beauty captivates even Lord Hari (Vishnu) himself.
2. Daddhyan Nadeevara Shirasi Bhraamati
दद्यान् नदीवर-शिरसि भ्रामति नश्च्चलच्चच्छीलच्छन्मे | दागं नीरीनमस्नमनीनमनु प्रामाम्यमनिशे षिण्यम् ||
Meaning: Whose golden locks swirl like waves of a celestial river, who is adorned with divine garlands, and whose eyes are like blooming lotuses.
3. Samrambhaam Yatipungava
संरम्भां यतिपुंगव-नामगानां जीवामुपास्य चरणाम्बुजोगे | कृपाञ्च्छाम्य चरणाचरणेन चा संकल्प्पूर्णाम् ||
Meaning: I meditate upon the supreme ascetic Shankaracharya, who composed this hymn filled with deep compassion and spiritual radiance, aiming to invoke the divine blessings of Lakshmi Devi.
